Not what you think.
Our bedroom is a disaster. Messy, cramped, disorganised. Realistically, we’re only there to sleep these days (Relax? What’s that?). What I’d like it to be instead is a place that looks like grown ups live there – organised, pretty and a reflection of us. At the moment, it looks like a rental. At least there are no Che Guevara or Bob Marley banners thumb-tacked to the wall. It’s had pretty much no love since we moved in.
Since this photo was taken, the carpet had been replaced, door and window frames repainted, and we put up a cheap holland blind to help Clara sleep better during the day. I couldn’t bear the original curtains, so all that’s been hanging for three years is the yellowed, sagging lining material.
We’ve moved Clara out *sniff, sniff*, so we have some space back, and it’s much easier to access the drawers on my side now. There’s still so much to do, and I almost I can’t believe I’m about to put this photo on the internet…
So here’s the plan…
- Change curtain rod, replace curtains
- New bed, one that’s less bulky than our current hand me down
- Put some much neglected artwork on the walls
- Add some shelving either side of the window to corral the ‘special things’ that little fingers are magnetically drawn to.
Of course, some of these things are, umm, aspirational (paint?! Maybe when the little people move out), but I have already started on some of the others 🙂
What else do you think makes a bedroom special but functional?
